In the Bellator vs. RIZIN 2 main event in Saitama, Japan, this Saturday, Patricky Pitbull defeated current RIZIN champion Roberto Satoshi, securing his place in the Bellator lightweight grand prix semifinal.

Stepping in on short notice to replace A.J. McKee in the grand prix, Satoshi, despite attempting a takedown, was efficiently countered by Pitbull, a former Bellator titleholder. Throughout the match, Pitbull maintained an upper hand, striking effectively while defending against Satoshi’s moves. Despite a powerful flying knee to Satoshi’s jaw, Pitbull decided not to follow him to the ground, wary of Satoshi’s formidable jiu-jitsu skills.

The third round saw Pitbull continuously aiming at Satoshi’s leading leg, ultimately bringing the jiu-jitsu expert down with painful calf kicks. Satoshi’s agony was apparent, leading the referee to intervene just 49 seconds into the round.

Pitbull now progresses to the lightweight tournament semifinal against Alexander Shabliy. Concurrently, champion Usman Nurmagomedov will face Brent Primus for the other spot in the final.

The Bellator’s inaugural flyweight champion remains undetermined after the Kyoji Horiguchi vs. Makoto Shinryu bout ended abruptly and without a victor. The fight served as the co-main event for Bellator vs. RIZIN 2, concluding within 25 seconds as Horiguchi, a former Bellator and RIZIN bantamweight champion, accidentally poked Shinryu in the eye. The plan for the vacant title is yet to be announced by Bellator.

In an important bantamweight bout, Magomed Magomedov claimed an impressive win in Japan. The Russian fighter successfully defended against former title contender Danny Sabatello’s submission attempts, notably a rear-naked choke in the first round, before applying a guillotine choke in the second round, compelling “The Italian Gangster” to surrender.

“Having defeated the Italian gangster, I now stand as the Dagestan gangster,” Magomedov declared post-victory, his 20th in 23 professional fights. “Having once lost to a king of the jungle, I seek a title now.”

The event also saw tight decision victories for Kana Watanabe and Andrey Koreshkov against Veta Arteaga and Lorenz Larkin, respectively. Click here for a comprehensive list of Bellator vs. RIZIN 2 results.
