UFC 291 Main Card

The main card for UFC 291 has undergone a revamp with the addition of a lightweight bout and the removal of a middleweight one, making it slightly different from what was announced last week.

The revised lineup for the much-anticipated event was announced during the UFC London broadcast on Saturday. The event, slated for July 29 at the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, will feature the rematch of former interim lightweight champions Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje, who are set to contend for the unoccupied “BMF” title.

The major shuffle in the pay-per-view event involved the fight between Paulo Costa and Ikram Aliskerov being called off. Both fighters have been rescheduled to UFC 294 in October, where Costa is set to square off against Khamzat Chimaev and Aliskerov is matched up with Nassourdine Imavov.

The event’s co-main attraction is the crucial 205-pound clash between former light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz and former middleweight champion Alex Pereira, marking Pereira’s entry into the division.

The rest of the main card includes a welterweight title fight featuring two-time title contender Stephen Thompson and Michel Pereira, a match between former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson and Bobby Green, and the pay-per-view opener, a bout between Michael Chiesa and Kevin Holland.

As for the preliminary lineup, it hasn’t been finalized yet but it includes a heavyweight bout featuring Derrick Lewis vs. Marcos Rogerio de Lima. The televised prelims will be aired on both ABC and ESPN from 8 p.m. ET.

Here’s a look at the revised UFC 291 main card:

Main Card, 10 p.m. ET, ESPN+ PPV

  • Dustin Poirier vs. Justin Gaethje (BMF title fight)
  • Jan Blachowicz vs. Alex Pereira
  • Stephen Thompson vs. Michel Pereira
  • Tony Ferguson vs. Bobby Green

Well, I had my money on Costa for the original card, now it’s all messed up… On the bright side, Poirier vs. Gaethje should be a good watch.
