Toronto, Canada is set to host an electrifying start to the UFC’s 2024 pay-per-view lineup with UFC 297 on January 20th, featuring two championship bouts.
Topping the bill at UFC 297 is the middleweight championship clash between Sean Strickland and Dricus du Plessis. Alongside them, the women’s bantamweight division will see a new champion emerge as Mayra Bueno Silva faces Raquel Pennington.
Feast your eyes on the recently unveiled UFC 297 poster.
In his maiden title defense, Strickland aims to build on his stunning victory over Israel Adesanya last September. Defying the odds as the underdog, he showcased a dominant performance, securing a decisive five-round triumph and snatching the title from Adesanya.
Dricus du Plessis, on the other hand, rides a wave of eight consecutive victories, including six impressive performances in the UFC. His recent knockout of former UFC champ Robert Whittaker has cemented his position as the division’s top contender.
In the co-main event spotlight, Raquel Pennington, buoyed by a streak of five victories, makes her second bid for the championship title. Her first attempt in 2018 against Amanda Nunes fell short, but now she has another shot at glory with the title up for grabs following Nunes’ retirement in June.
Mayra Bueno Silva, unbeaten since her return to the bantamweight class, has racked up victories against notable opponents such as Lina Lansberg and Stephanie Egger. Despite a notable submission win over ex-champion Holly Holm, that victory was later nullified due to Silva’s positive test for a prohibited substance.
Below is the current lineup for UFC 297, though the order of bouts is yet to be finalized.

Strickland’s first title defense, thats gonna be interesting… especially after that upset with Adesanya.
du Plessis is on fire with his winning streak, but will he keep it up against Strickland? thats the real question.
kinda disappointed Nunes retired, was looking forward to more of her fights. But Pennington vs Silva should be good too.
oh man, can’t wait for UFC 297! Strickland vs du Plessis gonna be epic, hope it lives up to the hype.
Silva’s controversy though, not sure how I feel about her fighting for the title… Hope the UFC’s keeping things clean.
