Cory Sandhagen had to fight hard during a long 25 minutes. After it was over, Cory was declared the winner with his hand raised in victory against Marlon Vera at the UFC San Antonio event. All three judges gave different results when they decided who won – if you want to see what they chose, have a look at this scorecard.

Judges Chris Lee and Sal D’Amato thought that Sandhagen won the fight, with Lee giving him 49 points to Vera’s 46, and D’Amato giving him all five rounds for a 50-45 score. However, Judge Joel Ojeda had it the other way around – deciding that Vera was the winner with 48 points over Sandhagen’s 47.

Sandhagen just won his first decision since last year in August 2019, when he won against Raphael Assuncao. He lost his two most recent decisions; one when he tried to become the interim champion to Petr Yan and the other one through a split call with T.J. Dillashaw.

This was only the second time that Vera has ever been defeated in his past five fights. His previous loss also came about from points having come from a unanimous decision by Jose Aldo in December 2020.
