Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald put forth a really impressive fight during UFC 189, and for that they will soon enter the UFC Hall of Fame.
On Saturday’s UFC 287 broadcast, it was revealed that the two were going to be inducted into the Hall of Fame Fight Wing during International Fight Week (that is held in Las Vegas from July 3-July 9). You can watch a video announcement about this below.
Lawler was at the Kaseya Center in Miami on Saturday to celebrate taking the title of Welterweight Champion by winning a close fight against Johny Hendricks. MacDonald, young at just 25-years old, wanted to take that prize away and take revenge for losing to Lawler back in 2013. Everyone there cheered him on as he accepted his position as champion.
MacDonald and Lawler had a really exciting match! MacDonald tried so hard to win the match, but Lawler put up an unbelievably tough fight. For more than 20 minutes, both of them fought each other hard and were covered in blood when the fifth round bell rung.
Lawler beat MacDonald in a fight, causing him long-lasting damage to his face. It was recognized as one of the greatest fights ever in combat sports and people still talk about it today. Lawler, MacDonald and other well-known fighters like Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo and Jens Pulver are all getting inducted into a big list of fighters in 2023.
In this special Fight Wing event, there will be four fights to watch. Cub Swanson and Doo Ho Choi will go against each other. Forrest Griffin and Stephon Bonnar 1 will face-off. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Dan Henderson are also competing against one another. Finally, Jon Jones has a match with Alexander Gustafsson.
