In the Professional Fighters League, the final matchups for the light heavyweight and featherweight playoffs are decided following an action-packed fight night on Friday in San Antonio, Texas.
Josh Silveira, the son of American Top Team founder Conan Silveira, secured his spot in the 205-pound final against Impa Kasanganay, impressively taking down Ty Flores with a first-round TKO. He delivered eight knees to Flores’s head in the clinch, leading to the fight’s termination.
The grand million-dollar finale will see Silveira squaring off against Kasanganay on Dec. 8 in Dublin, Ireland. Kasanganay, a UFC veteran, made it to the final by demonstrating his striking prowess with a standout knockout.
Kasanganay managed to thwart Marthin Hamlet’s attempts to take him down and sent him crashing to the canvas with a powerful right hand. Despite a follow-up left punch momentarily reviving Hamlet, the referee, Jeff Rexroad, concluded the match, bringing Kasanganay’s 2023 record under PFL to an unbeaten 4-0.
In the featherweight category, Jesus Pinedo dominated the night with a remarkable victory over Bubba Jenkins. After surprising many by defeating Brendan Loughnane in June, Pinedo floored Jenkins in the first round. Jenkins was saved by the round’s end, but the relentless Pinedo finished him off with a TKO in the second round.
Pinedo is set to fight against Gabriel Braga once again for the million-dollar prize. Braga clinched the most significant victory of his MMA career by besting veteran Chris Wade. Braga’s striking prowess, coupled with evading Wade’s significant moments, including a swift guillotine attempt in the second round, resulted in a split decision victory.
The preliminary part of the evening showcased a spectacular first-round knockout by undefeated Thad Jean, and consecutive rear-naked choke wins for Lisa Mauldin, Anthony Ivy, and Chelsea Hackett.
