PFL 4 Results

Brendan Loughnane was unable to retain his PFL featherweight title.

In the headline event of PFL 4 in Atlanta on Thursday night, Loughnane battled Jesus Pinedo for a spot in the 2023 playoffs. Victory for Loughnane would ensure his progression, while Pinedo sought an early finish. Pinedo, also known as “El Mudo,” did not disappoint and secured one of PFL’s most surprising upsets with a knockout just 94 seconds in.

Loughnane and Pinedo both displayed aggressive strategies from the onset, with Pinedo landing several successful right-hand punches. This led to Loughnane trying to engage in close combat which proved to be a disastrous move when Pinedo delivered a stunning knee in the clinch, toppling the reigning PFL champion. Pinedo capitalized on this with a few powerful hammerfists, marking the first stoppage loss of Loughnane’s career.

This triumph sealed Pinedo’s place in the 2023 featherweight playoffs, where he’ll compete against top-seeded Bubba Jenkins. Unfortunately for Loughnane, he has been excluded from the playoffs and must wait until next year to attempt to reclaim his featherweight title.

Khaybulaev Dominates Diamond

Movlid Khaybulaev made a notable comeback after an injury prevented his participation in the 2022 PFL season.

A jumping knee from Khaybulaev at the end of the first round took Tyler Diamond off his feet. Despite the damage, Diamond managed to hold on until the bell. Khaybulaev took full charge in the second round, executed a quick takedown, and finally submitted Diamond with an arm-triangle choke.

Khaybulaev’s victory earned him the third spot in the featherweight playoffs, where he’ll face off against Gabriel Braga in the semifinals.

Hamlet Secures Victory Over Kei

Following a letdown in his 2022 PFL season, Marthin Hamlet turned the tables in 2023.

Even with a secured spot in the 2023 playoffs, Hamlet didn’t hold back in his fight against Sam Kei, seeking to secure the top seed. The fight saw even footing on strikes, but Hamlet repeatedly gained an advantage with successful takedowns and back control, threatening Kei with chokes and punches. Kei showed resilience but couldn’t generate enough offense to overcome the setbacks.

Hamlet will be up against Impa Kasanganay on August 4.

Jenkins Chokes Out Sung Bin Jo

Bubba Jenkins secured his spot in the PFL playoffs with a swift victory over Sung Bin Jo.

Jenkins quickly initiated a rear-waistlock suplex on “The Korean Falcon” and methodically locked in a rear-naked choke, leading to Sungbin losing consciousness when he failed to tap out. Only 85 seconds into the fight, referee Keith Peterson intervened to protect the unconscious Sungbin, granting Jenkins his seventh PFL win and a place in the 2023 featherweight playoffs.

Takedown Renders Monte In Agony

Josh Silveira secured a quick victory, but not the way he intended.

A takedown just 90 seconds into his match with Delan Monte resulted in a severe knee injury for Monte, leaving him writhing in pain. The unfortunate incident awarded Silveira the win, but with sympathy for Monte who was helped off the canvas in distress.

Silveira is set to face Ty Flores in the semifinals on August 4.
