Kai Kara-France vs. Manel Kape targeted for UFC 293 in Sydney

UFC 293 in Sydney is set to host an exciting flyweight clash between Kai Kara-France and Manel Kape.

Sources close to the promotion have confirmed that Kai Kara-France and Manel Kape are being targeted for a matchup at UFC 293 in Sydney, Australia. Verbal agreements are already in place, and contracts are expected to be finalized soon. The initial announcement came from ESPN, the UFC’s broadcasting partner.

Kai Kara-France aims to break his two-fight losing streak since joining the UFC. Following three consecutive victories from March 2021 to March 2022, he earned an interim flyweight title fight against Brandon Moreno at UFC 277 in July. Unfortunately, Kara-France was stopped in the third round. Currently ranked fifth in MMA Hook’s Global Rankings, he recently competed in the main event of UFC Vegas 74 earlier this month, where he controversially lost via a split decision to Amir Albazi.

Manel Kape, a former RIZIN champion, enters this high-profile UFC matchup on a three-fight winning streak. However, he has faced some bad luck in recent times. After his victory over David Dvorak in December, Kape was scheduled to fight Alex Perez at UFC San Antonio in March. Unfortunately, Perez withdrew just hours before the bout. Kape was also slated to face Deiveson Figueiredo in July at UFC 290, but the multiple-time flyweight champion had to withdraw due to injury.

While an official main event for UFC 293 has yet to be announced, it is widely expected to feature middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. According to Dana White, Adesanya will defend his title against the winner of the UFC 290 matchup between Robert Whittaker and Dricus Du Plessis.
