Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic seem ready to start their championship heavyweight fight, even though it looks like the July date isn’t going to happen.
Jones and Miocic were expected to fight in UFC 290 for the International Fight Week in Las Vegas. However, it seems like there might be a delay as Jones accused Miocic of “dodging” him all of 2022 and that he was now hearing rumors that they won’t fight in July.
Miocic was ready to fight in the summer, but then he saw UFC President Dana White talking on The Pat McAfee Show. During this conversation, White said that Jon Jones was making it hard for the fight between Miocic and himself to be booked. According to White’s words, Jones wasn’t responding and had gone “underground”. Miocic then re-posted the interview with a message saying that Jones should let everyone know about when the fight will happen.
Last month, Miocic said he was the one running. But it seems Jones didn’t like this comment from Miocic, and waited for a few days before responding to him. On Saturday night, the two fighters began talking back and forth on social media.
Jones tweeted to Miocic saying:“I stayed quiet for a few weeks and then you started thinking that I’m scared of you. You can believe whatever you want, old timer.” Afterwards, Jones wrote another tweet suggesting that he might have a fight with Miocic at Madison Square Garden in 2023 as his final one (his retirement fight).
Jones and Miocic are usually showing respect for each other, but the wait to book their fight is making them frustrated.
It looks like the expected fight between Jones and Miocic won’t happen in July and instead may occur in 2023. UFC President White confirmed that they are aiming to have the fight at Madison Square Garden. Nothing has been finalized yet.
Before they compete and try to win the heavyweight title, these two will have a lot of opportunity to argue and fight with each other.
