As his professional boxing debut is fast approaching, Nate Diaz is demonstrating increased fervor.
Jake Paul is ready to host one of MMA’s most beloved fighters in a middleweight bout in Dallas, Texas, on August 5. This won’t be a new experience for the 6-foot-1 Paul, who has previously faced and defeated four MMA fighters in boxing matches. As Paul’s profile grows, he has been calling out various prominent figures from the MMA community, including Diaz, and now he’s getting what he wished for.
Paul, known as the “Problem Child”, has expressed his dissatisfaction with Diaz’s “dull” and atypical pre-fight build-up, claiming to have received trash-talk before the fight was officially signed. Diaz responded back in May at their initial pre-fight press conference, stating there was no need for hostility this early on. However, with the fight just weeks away, Diaz, hailed as one of Stockton’s best, is beginning to fight back in his classic style.
Diaz, speaking on Bradley Martyn’s Raw Talk, said, “This guy thinks he’ll actually defeat everyone and he’s louder than all those who are genuinely winning fights. So now, I have to step into the boxing ring and defeat this guy to prove who’s the real victor. Despite people claiming it’s a mismatch, I’m going to defeat him for talking trash.”
Diaz also mentioned the disrespectful comments Paul had made towards Conor McGregor and his wife, adding, “On some truly disrespectful matters that he shouldn’t have addressed. And nobody’s saying anything. I’m the one who said, shut up, I’m going to show you what a real beating looks like.”
At 38, Diaz is making his boxing debut but doesn’t plan to linger like some of his fellow MMA veterans have recently. His last UFC fight was in September, when he beat Tony Ferguson with a fourth-round guillotine choke. Though it was the last fight on his contract, Diaz made it clear that he doesn’t want it to be his last in the UFC or MMA in general.
“Once this fight is over, everything changes with each bout,” said Diaz. “People don’t get that. Every single fight alters the entire bracket. If they’ll take me, I’d love to return to the UFC. Regardless of what Dana [White] says, I’m indifferent. It’s all business. I just want to get back to what I do best: genuinely fighting.”
