Colby Covington really wants to fight Leon Edwards for the welterweight title and he hopes the match will take place at UFC 290 during International Fight Week. It is rumored that a heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic will be occurring at this event as well.

After the UFC 286 event, the president Dana White said that Covington is the number one contender for the 170-pound title competition. He again confirmed this after UFC San Antonio took place.

Over the years, Covington and Jones have talked about each other a lot, so if their titles are decided at UFC 290, Covington expects it will generate a great amount of attention.

Colby Covington said that International Fight Week is the best scene for an exciting spectacle. He also said it would be funny and make money if he can appear in this event with his old friend Jon Jones during a press conference.

Covington hasn’t had a fight since March 2022, when he beat Jorge Masvidal in the main event of UFC 272. When asked if he would mind going into the co-main event with potential Jones vs. Miocic heavyweight championship fight, Covington said he’s up for it because it’ll draw crowds and make money.

Colby Covington said that he is willing to do whatever the UFC wants, as he is good at doing business. He is responsible and shows up on time, unlike Khamzat Chimaev who misses his weight by nine pounds. Additionally, Colby can cut 18 pounds in just one day with no complaints.

I’m ready to do whatever is requested of me for UFC 290. I’ll be involved in International Fight Week no matter what month it happens; April, May, June or August. The final decision isn’t mine though, it’s up to the people in charge.

This situation has made all of my haters unhappy which makes me very happy!

Edwards is not very interested in having a fight with Covington, but White wants it to happen for sure. If the UFC plans for this fight to take place on an International Fight Week pay-per-view card, Covington likes that idea. But if the UFC chooses any other date, he still thinks it’s fine too.

Covington said that he is always ready for any fight. He hopes that he will be the main event at UFC 287 in Miami as he calls himself “the king of Miami”. It does not matter to him who he fights, he will show up prepared no matter what. He was ready to fight at UFC 286 on a moment’s notice and knows that he can beat any opponent due to his skills as the best fighter in the world.
