Georges St-Pierre thinks Israel Adesanya should pay attention to himself this Saturday. On that particular day, Adesanya will be fighting against Alex Pereira to try and get back the middleweight title which he lost three times before – two of those were in kickboxing matches and most recently was at UFC 281 when Adesanya knocked him out in 5 rounds.
Adesanya and Pereira do not like each other very much after having not-so-friendly encounters with one another. At the press conference before the fight, Adesanya wore a dog collar and said he was going to be unleashed. St-Pierre warned him to keep his emotions in check.
St-Pierre was asked for advice for Adesanya about fighting. He said it is important to focus on the goal and not let emotion take over. Trying to use anger may be a mistake because it can cloud judgement and make it hard to achieve an objective.
Focus on the things you can do something about – for example, what you can do to win instead of how others are going to judge you or your opponent’s moves. Don’t worry about the stuff that is out of your control.
“Just focus on the stuff that you can do something about and by doing so, you know what to do to get the job done. Stay focused on only what matters and ignore all the other stuff. Just do your best and you’ll have a better chance at success.”
Adesanya has not been successful up until this point, but betting experts still think he has a better chance of winning than his opponent Pereira. DraftKings lists him as the favorite to win with “-140”.
This Saturday, you can watch a fight at the Kaseya Center in Miami. It’s called UFC 287!
