Brian Ortega: A Ready Willingness to Humble Ilia Topuria in MMA

Brian Ortega is someone important in the UFC featherweight division, with lots of talented people.

Ortega used to be very successful at Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) as he was unbeaten in 14 straight matches. In December 2018, he earned his first opportunity to win a title of which it was highly anticipated and excitedly watched. Unfortunately, Ortega lost against Max Holloway after being stopped by the doctor between rounds four due to getting tired too quickly.

Ortega, a 32-year-old fighter from Los Angeles, has lost two fights in a row. At UFC Long Island in July, he was knocked out by Yair Rodriguez because of an injury to his shoulder. Ortega isn’t fully recovered yet and will need another three weeks or so until he is well enough to train like usual again. Recently, Ilia Topuria – who just recently defeated Bryce Mitchell – made it clear that he wants to fight Ortega next.

Ortega said to The Schmo, “I get challenged a lot by people like Topuria. Here’s my point – I won’t shy away from tough fights and can beat any of the best out there. Right now, I’m not even allowed to fight in competitions, so I gotta focus on training first before anything else.”

“If anyone challenges me, I’m ready to fight and prove my strength. No one can just talk their way up here, it’s a fighting world! If someone has arranged a fight for themselves, good luck to them. My manager will decide who I have to fight with and then we’ll see what happens. I never avoided any fights in the past and am excited for this opportunity.”

Topuria has never been beaten in 13 fights and is currently at the number 9 spot on the official UFC rankings. Even though Ortega knows something about Topuria’s future, no one else knows what it is yet because there are no upcoming events that Topuria has booked for himself announced publicly.

Alexander Volkanovski recently lost his featherweight championship in a fight against Islam Makhachev, but the division is still very popular. Mr. Volkanovski definitely wants to get his rematch with Makhchev, and on that same night at UFC 284 an interim champion was crowned – Brian Ortega. Brian Ortega has already fought back-and-forth with both Volkanovski and Makhchev, so he’s interested in how things will turn out with all three of them at the top.

Ortega believes Volkanovski should either fight Islam or Yair. The featherweight division is really tough right now. Ortega guesses that Volkanovski is most likely to win the match.

“UFC Star Power

Colby Covington wants to fight Leon Edwards with the help of his old pal Jon Jones. Charles Oliveira has vowed to hunt down Beneil Dariush at UFC 288. Matt Brown is angry about how a judge scored Cory Sandhagen vs Marlon Vera and believes it was not right. Lastly, Cory Sandhagen doesn’t want to take an easy route in order to be UFC champion, so he’d like his next fight to be Merab Dvalishvili instead.

The fight card for Gamebred Boxing 4 has changed, and Joe Riggs is replacing Paul Daley in the preliminary round. Nate Landwehr hopes to fight Movsar Evloev next and claims that no one else is brave enough to challenge him.

An Epic Matchup

I think it would be a great idea to matchup Josh Emmett and Ortega in their next fight. I’d also really like to see Topuria fight in their next bout as well.
