Antonio 'Bigfoot' Silva retirement

Merely eight days post declaring his exit from combat sports, Antonio Silva, popularly known as ‘Bigfoot’, has once again rescinded his retirement.

The erstwhile UFC heavyweight championship aspirant initially bid farewell to his career in December 2022, expressing, “everybody has a limit.” However, he came out of retirement and subsequently experienced another MMA defeat, this time a decision against Salim El Ouassaidi at Kingdom Fighting 1 on June 10 in France.

Presently on an 11-match losing streak spanning four sports—MMA, boxing, kickboxing, and bare-knuckle boxing—Silva took to social media to request a rematch with Ouassaidi.

“I’m ready and I’m coming out of retirement to fight again because I’m certain I didn’t lose,” Silva posted on his Instagram page.

Just after his latest loss, Silva stated, “everything has a beginning and an end, and I’m contented and satisfied. No professional athlete ever wants to stop, be it in volleyball or football, but everything has its time, and I gave it 19 years.”

Nicknamed ‘Bigfoot’, Silva has been knocked out in nine out of his last 11 bouts, tracing back to 2015. The Brazilian heavyweight has not celebrated a victory since a second-round knockout of Soa Palelei in Aug. 2015, marking his only win in 16 fights since 2013.
