Alex Perez said that something really scary happened before his UFC match in San Antonio which made it impossible for him to fight.
Through social media, he released a statement saying that during the time of his UFC San Antonio fight, a seizure occurred backstage and made it so he could not have the match against Manel Kape as expected.
I’d like to thank everyone for all the help and understanding. I was preparing for my fight and had a seizure. Medical help came right away and I was taken care of really well with enough water, electrolytes, etc. This wasn’t anything to do with trying to reduce weight ahead of the match– it actually was one of the easiest times I ever cut weight!
In the next few weeks, I need to do more tests to figure out what’s wrong. I’m sorry if anyone is annoyed by this and thank you in advance for respecting my privacy. Thanks also to the UFC medical team who are helping me with this.
Since 2020, Perez (who is 31 years old) has been really unlucky. He’s only gotten to fight twice in two years and 10 of his fights have been cancelled. That’s a lot! Those fights were against opponents like Kai Kara-France, Amir Albazi, Askar Askarov and Matt Schnell; some of them being cancelled more than once.
Vince Morales, a teammate of Perez’s and a UFC veteran, tweeted a message on Saturday night about being gentle with what happened to Alex. He said that when the EMTs showed up, Alex was talking okay and he begged everyone not to take it out on him.
