Alan Belcher, the ex-UFC middleweight, maintains his post-MMA boxing trajectory with an upcoming match against the potential Jake Paul contender, Hasim Rahman Jr. in a heavyweight bout.
The Misfits Boxing 8 roster now includes Belcher and Rahman Jr. The fight is set for July 22, at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium and will be broadcast on DAZN pay-per-view.
Belcher, currently under contract with BKFC, was confirmed to be a part of this event before BKFC officials were aware of the arrangement, according to a statement from MMA Hook. Requests for details from Misfits officials have yet to be answered.
In a recent Instagram post, Belcher shared his anticipation for defending his BKFC heavyweight title against Ben Rothwell following his match with Rahman Jr. He stated:
I have been vocal about striving for my utmost potential and this bout is a significant leap towards that goal. Thanks to @misfitsboxing for facilitating this match. @davidfeldmanbkfc is content with this pairing and we both are thrilled about amplifying visibility for THE Bare Knuckle Heavyweight Champ. I am the best version of myself right now, and I’m keen on unveiling myself to a wider audience. Once that’s done, I will go back to @bkfc to defend my heavyweight title against @rothwellfighter.
After retiring from MMA in 2013, Belcher kickstarted a new career in combat sports in 2021. He transitioned to the heavyweight division to compete in BKFC, securing four consecutive wins, three of which were knockouts.
Rahman Jr., son of the former boxing champion Hasim Rahman Jr., last competed against ex-UFC heavyweight Greg Hardy, who managed to outscore him at a Misfits Boxing event.
Rahman Jr. was due to compete against Paul last August. However, the match was called off when his request to compete at 215 pounds, 10 heavier than initially agreed, was refused by both Paul and the supervisory athletic commission in New York. Rahman Jr. was a replacement for Tommy Fury, who was barred from entering the U.S. due to alleged connections with mob boss Daniel Kinahan.
The July 22 fight card is chock-full of internet influencers and features a Four-Man Survivor Tag Match, billed by Misfits as “every man for himself across four tumultuous rounds.” MMA veteran Anthony Taylor will also be returning after his impressive victory over influencer Salt Papi.
Here is the event’s lineup:
